A - COIL: A Tool to Close the Equity Gap in International Experiences

9:45 - 10:35 AM

Let’s face it: most Sinclair students will not study abroad or travel internationally due to family, work, and financial constraints. Community college students, and especially minority community college students, often view international experiences such as study abroad, as opportunities that are beyond the scope of what is possible for them. Yet, when these students graduate, they will enter a marketplace in which employers put a premium on global skills that enable employees to operate in an international context. These skills include cultural awareness, communication, international commercial awareness, and digital literacy. Through COIL, or Collaborative Online International Learning, the equity and inclusion gap in international experiences can be narrowed.
