“Belonging” as Practice

10Kathy Rowell:30 AM - 12:00 PM

This learning track will examine the importance of the concept of “belonging” in creating equitable learning experiences for our students and our college community. As part of this session, participants will learn about research on belonging in academe and in everyday life. Participants will walk to the Dayton International Peace Museum on Courthouse Square where participants will have an opportunity to see a community belonging art project that was created to honor peace in Dayton. The session will end with a focus on the importance of cultural patterns in creating belonging; participants will paint a tile mosaic that will be part of a larger collaborative art piece on community.

Fun Fact: Kathy has travelled to over 40 countries across the world but her greatest adventure is running along the Great Miami River in Dayton on most days.
