Breakout 16T

2:00 - 2:55 PM, Exercising Our Listening Strength
One of the many strengths we have as Instructors is our ability to listen. Yet, one of the underdeveloped communication skills for our students is listening. For our students, listening is often a passive and taken-for-granted activity. When we listen, we listen differently depending on the goals of the listening event. This workshop will introduce participants to the different types of listening our students use. We will explore the types of listening, the differences between the types of listening and when each type would be appropriate. Participants will leave this workshop with a better understanding of listening and some new and inventive ways to better use "listening" in their classes and course assignments.
