Join your Sinclair Librarians for monthly discussions around censorship and book banning. Each month, we will gather to discuss either a current issue surrounding censorship or a specific banned or challenged book, film, or resource. Please note, this is a participatory event and you will be expected to read the book/article or review the resource before we meet.
A critically acclaimed coming of age story about two Mexican-American gay teenagers, "Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe," has been on banned lists due to depictions of homosexuality and references to drugs and sex. Set in the 1980’s, the novel explores their struggles surrounding struggles with racial and ethnic identity, sexuality, and family relationships.
Discussion questions and any additional supplemental material will be sent to all who register before the event.
