Dominant narratives in a society are so pervasive and overpowering that few people ever question them. Frequently, it never occurs to members of that society that there could even be an alternate narrative explaining the historical factors that created the current conditions they experience. Yet dominant narratives are often a tool that powerful groups use to maintain power. This discussion will center around examples of dominant narratives and how they have historically been used by groups to silence other groups. Participants will be encouraged to share their thoughts and insights on how dominant narratives in our culture operate.
