Let's face it: most Sinclair students will not study abroad or travel internationally due to family, work and financial constraints. Sinclair students, and especially minority community college students, often view international experiences, such as study abroad, as opportunities that are beyond the scope of what is possible for them. Yet, when Sinclair students graduate, they will enter a marketplace in which employers put a premium on global skills that enable employers to operate in an international context. Through COIL, or Collaborative Online International Learning, the equity and inclusion gap in international experiences can be narrowed as students meet students from another country, work on a cross-cultural team, and work collaboratively on a project. Participants will learn more about what COIL is, the phases involved in planning a COILed course, and information about the COIL courses that will be offered by Sinclair faculty during AY 2021-22. They will also learn about COIL training opportunities for faculty who wish to develop a COILed course for AY 22-23. Two Sinclair faculty, Charles Richardson, Business/Marketing and Jessica McKinley, Communication who have both successfully taught a COIL module, will share their experiences.
