Join your Sinclair Librarians for monthly discussions around censorship and book banning. Each month, we will gather to discuss either a current issue surrounding censorship or a specific banned or challenged book, film, or resource. Please note, this is a participatory event and you will be expected to read the book/article or review the resource before we meet.
Discussion questions and supplemental material will be sent to all who register before the event.
Join us this month as we delve into the YA urban fantasy, Cemetery Boys, by Aiden Thomas. Cemetery Boys, tells the story of Yadriel, a transgender man from East L.A. who's traditional Latinx family is unwilling to accept his gender identity. The novel explores themes of gender roles, belonging, friendship, and cultural traditions as Yadriel rushes to save a ghostly friend in need before the end of Dio de Los Muertos.
Cemetery Boys, made history as the first book written by an openly trans author with a trans lead character to make the New York Times bestseller list.
The book has been challenged due to scenes mentioning or depicting drinking, drugs, profanity, sex, and violence.
