Join your Sinclair Librarians for monthly discussions around censorship and book banning. Each month, we will gather to discuss either a current issue surrounding censorship or a specific banned or challenged book, film, or resource. Please note, this is a participatory event and you will be expected to read the book/article or review the resource before we meet.
Discussion questions and supplemental material will be sent to all who register before the event.
Banned in at least 6 states during the 2021-2022 school year, Flamer, is an award winning semi-autobiographical graphic novel about Filipino teen, Aiden, and his struggles with gay identity during the 1990’s. In addition to struggles with sexuality, the book also deals with themes of familial abuse, depression, and bullying. It has been accused of containing pornographic images and normalizing non-heterosexual sexual orientations.
