We begin by exploring our own attitudes, beliefs, and values and how they shape our perception of ourselves and others. Then we take a closer look at unconscious bias; the automatic judgments we make based on differences in our ability, appearance, age, background, gender, race, culture, or other criteria irrelevant to the job.
This learning session is designed to bring college faculty together to engage in healthy dialog and practice the skills learned in Part I of the "Search Committee Academy" program on unconscious bias. Learners will have the opportunity to apply their knowledge to situations they may encounter in the search committee process through reflections, scenario-based exercises, and case studies.
